Hundreds of people took part of their day away from work and fun in the sun activities yesterday to honor those who made it all possible.

In Fairburn their day of remembrance was highlighted by the appearance of the 116th army band.

Major General Larry Taylor told the crowd gathered that the day was sacred, as a gun salute and the playing of taps followed his remarks.

"Well, to me it's a strong remembrance. These people give their lives so I can be here talking to you right now. I think they should put more heart into Memorial Day as some people do for Christmas.”

A parade through downtown Fairburn is always a true crowd pleaser, as the 116th army band was joined by the V.F.W color guard and veterans groups dating back to WWII.
