SPC Daniel Lyons, SPC Patrick Nyren, and SPC Kenneth Goss prepare to perform "Ventures"
On Sunday, November 2, three Soldiers from the 1st Armored Division Band at Ft. Bliss gave a world premiere performance of Howard J. Buss’ new work “Ventures” for euphonium and percussion. The performance was part of an evening of low brass studio recitals at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM.

SPC Patrick Nyren, euphoniumist with the 1AD Band, was the guest clinician and soloist that evening. He listened to, and provided constructive feedback for, over two hours of NMSU student performances that surrounded his first solo recital as an Army musician.

SPC Nyren and percussionists, SPC Kenneth Goss and SPC Daniel Lyons, gave a very thrilling rendition of this brand new piece for euphonium and percussion. Using a variety of percussion timbres and cascading melodic lines, the trio executed in an extremely professional manner, setting the foundation for this new piece to evolve into the rotation of standard repertoire for the instruments. “Ventures” was written specifically for SPC Nyren in June of 2014.
