Just two days after arriving in theater, the 3rd Infantry Division Band’s newly formed acoustic rock ensemble, Lo! Krawl, kickstarted the lunch hour at Koele Dining Facility with their debut performance.

New to Bagram Air Field, the group entertained crowds of soldiers and civilians with their renditions of hit songs such as Train’s “Drive By” and John Mellencamp’s “Hurt so Good” as snow began to cover ground outside. Command Sergeant Major of the 3rd Infantry Division, CSM Gilpin even stated between sets that, “This group makes me happy, and I really mean that.”

Lo! Krawl is the second part of a rotation of soldiers supplied by the 3rd Infantry Band scheduled to provide music to Bagram, always ensuring a fresh musical scene for deployed soldiers to enjoy. This is especially exciting because all but one of its members has never been on a deployment before.

This unique group is comprised of seven musicians, many of whom have been performing on additional instruments other than their primary assigned instrument. While they function as an acoustic ensemble on the stage, they also have the ability to conduct military ceremonies with the same professional demeanor and poise. Members of this ensemble also make up the 3rd Infantry Division Band’s woodwind quintet, which this week has also performed several ceremonies to include a Naturalization Ceremony, which welcomed five new citizens to the United States.
